I haven't entered the Live Challenge but I'm curious if street shots of buskers or whatever would qualify (in the minds of the voters) or get reamed? I think they should do fine but would absolutely hate to get caught, in a narrow minded vortex. "I've fallen and I can't get up..."
Example:

How would anyone think that is NOT live music?
They are breathing, right?
edit to rephrase and add: the Sax sounds a little off key.

You don't think that people will/might be looking for Live Concert type of stuff...only?

I believe DPC voters will be fine with buskers. |

I would think a macro of a cricket would fit, and I am very challenge-relevance oriented when it comes to voting. Anyone who would say that any of those photos above "does not meet the challenge" will have their village burned. ;-)
ps - This guy plays a mean pitchfork!

WOW... tough voters not to count buskers... but they'll be one or two I'm sure...
I personally think that shots with music being played to an audience would be well received (including street musicians!) The idea of the challenge being to go out and find and shoot live music.. a shot of your partner on the porch holding a guitar is not going to quite cut it (IMO)

I'm not submitting nothing for this challenge. But I would consider these "Live Music". Why would'nt one consider it?
I might give a concert a better score probably due to extravagant light effects but if done poorly I'd give it a low score too.
Bottom line if people do not consider this Live Music then that is just over doing it. |

I thought people would be looking for exotic concert type of lighting, flavor and energy.
"The roar of the grease paint...the smell of the crowd"
...kinda sounds like a KISS concert.
I also have Open-Challengitus...so I'm a little more cautious with how I even flirt with entry ideas.

Why not? ...So long as your partner is actually playing the guitar. It may not do well otherwise, but it certainly is "live music"...

What about a "staged" photo. Your friend, his guitar and pose him/her as if they were on stage. How would that go over? |

Personally, if its music, if its live, if its well photographed it will go over well for me as a voter! |

If you can hear it and it's not coming out of a TV or radio, chances are it counts. |

Seeing as the challenge is 'live music', and not 'musicians', I'll certainly be more impressed by photos that convey an audience. |

I still don't buy the Cricket's leg argument. |

Do tell how the presence of an audience would somehow enhance the live music aspect of the challenge. One could argue that the challenge is "Live Music" and not "Audiences"
The quality of the shot.... and not the venue is what is of the utmost importance to me.

I love the Saxaphone player. Excellent photo and yes that qualifies for my opinion and I think the challenge "Live Music". |

I agree. I don't care whether it's a huge production with screaming fans, or street musicians, or a close up of your neighbor on the porch. As long as it's a good picture depicting what COULD be live music, then fine. I don't even care if you stage it! If the result comes out looking real, then more power to ya! Get creative and have fun with it. |

I plan to submit one that is probably outside the box--more of a representational photo of live music...I'm curious to see how it'll do. It might not even have a person in it...

Jeez , this gets more and more stupid with every challenge
Audience or not, posed or not, if the subject depicts music of any description that isn't recorded e.g. music being "played" then how can it not be live music?
A DJ spinning his decks in a club, full or empty, is live music
Me playing the guitar at home alone is live music
A gig to an audience of none or 20000 is live music
sigh

We don't all have to agree, so you can all stop being so outraged. To me, playing guitar in my living room is not 'live music'. |

PLEASE, just for a laugh, define what isn't live about you strumming your guitar in your living room.
Your right we dont all have to agree but common sense should prevail over most by the law of averages.

Wow...I almost felt bad about starting this thread because of the nitpicking aspect of the whole thing but this actually heated up a bit.
I soon realized how obvious it all was...live means live...right?
So, Live covers a lot of ground...doesn't it?
Even a bird singing on a wire can fit....might not appeal to too many folks but it would fit. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I am surprised by the different views on this. I thought is was pretty obvious...live music is not recorded music. So anyone playing an instruments, or singing, anywhere, is (to me) live music.
I even buy the crickets! LOL
But, that's just me.....withdrawing to my corner again :)
