yeah those p-2000 epsons sure look nice, but pricey.

I don't have a portable data storage but i think i would go for a wolverine. I am not willing to pay the big $$ for a color screen... would rather save a bit and get more storage room.

The big color screen is nice, for a couple of reasons...

- Can have a quick looksee at what I've just shot (much better than previewing on the camera's LCD).
- Can pass it around right then and there ... at the wedding reception, for example.
- Can hook it up to the TV and begin a slide show (with music!) showing what I've just been shooting, or some other presentation I've prepared in advance (it makes a great "portable portfolio")

Yeah, it costs more than a simple storage device .. but you get a lot more too. :-)

Just got a 40GB FlashTrax on Friday, and used it (extensively) at a wedding yesterday, downloading 1600 images throughout the day, from 2GB and 1GB Lexar CF cards. It worked beautifully; I carried it in my little bag that I carry with me (I carry extra CF cards, extra batteries, etc.), and it was great to be able to just pop the card in, and keep on snapping while it downloaded.

Downloading to the PC when we got home was a breeze, and it was very fast. I love this thing, don't think you can beat it for the price, (I paid $200 for a refurbed one).

(I got it because it was cheaper than buying tons of CF cards so that I wouldn't have to reuse a card. That's just not practical for me at the moment, so this was the route I decided to take, and I am very happy with it!)

So I think I just bought a 40GB Flashtrax for $260USD (with shipping and taxes to Canada it comes to $375CAD)...I think I got a good deal on it.

Just a question...what do you Flashtraxers think about the battery life? I just bought a beautiful iPod but I think I'll use this for music and photos but have heard the battery life is kinda crappy...

Your thoughts?

The battery sucks if you look at everything you shoot as you go. If you use it to dump in the field its great. I used it for about 16 hours in New Mexico without recharging but I didn't use it for anything except dumping cards.

Try this:

Buy a IDE hard drive 100-200 gigs priced from 70.00 - 100.00
then but an external hard drive case thats firewire 15.00 - 30.00

I can copy over a 1 gig card in about 8-10 minutes with mine and the whole set up is much cheeper than a fancy system, when your large ide drive is full remove it from the case for storage and insert a new drive.
