Stillw aiting for my Tamron 28-75, the shop just loaned me a Canon 28-135 IS lens. No instructions with it. IS switch has two positions; a line and a circle. Which one is on, which one is off? Dumb question, but there ya have it...

Line is on -- "contact made" -- and the circle is off, for contact broken. It's an almost universal on/off logo now, look by any power switch on electronics. |

or perhaps could also be related to computers,
1 is on
0 is off
everything is made up of 1's and 0's |

The constant line means ON... the circle means OFF |

But the computer term came from the position of the switches in the transistors, showing an electrical flow (a value) or no flow (zero value). |

My theory: the line is on, because going in a line you'll end up somewhere, circle is off, because you'll just end up back where you started... :-P

To be honest, I'm a bit of a luddite and I've never quite figured out that little "universal" symbol, largely because everything I have is OBVIOUSLY on or off when you throw a switch. Thanx for the info.

And here's a shot of sofia asleep, at 60mm and 1/4 second, tungsten light, hand held, with IS on. Amazing, actually...

Because the 20D with that lens wont do voice activation. It needs to be 'L' to do voice.
:-).

1. This item is probably sold in non-English speaking places.
2. The words take up more room and are harder to creazte the patterns for. |
