Pros:
I would have to agree with just about everything said before me.
Cons:
I am new to the site as well (only about 1week) but I was hoping for more critiques on the pics I have posted in my profile/galleries. I haven't had a chance to enter any challenges yet, but I would have thought that comments would be made for gallery pics as well as challenge pics. I have been out and about commenting in both.

A good way to get more comments is to make a post in the forums along the lines of "got some spare time, who wants comments" or "who wants to swap comments" most folk will recipricate (CON: no spell check) the favor by commenting on your stuff if they know you have commented on thiers (and generally you dont know if you have recieved new comments) |

I'm new here, been browsing here for a while but finally made a profile. Now trying to decide whether to join so I can have a portfolio. Then I found this thread and am starting to become convinced that this could challenge me and be fun and lead to meeting some amazing, talented people.....decisions...decisions....decisions.

Pros:
1. Great fun, great friends
2. I've learned more than I ever thought possible
3. Too many better photographers for me to become egotistical and famous.. hehe.
Cons:
1. The bitching
2. The bitching about the bitching
3. The fact that I'm bitching about the bitching about the bitching
4. Dangit, I can't stop bitching
5. Ok, I don't have a 5. I'm actually pretty happy here.
As for cliques.. I guess I just force my way into things too well to really worry about that kind of thing.

I agree.. do a monthly "One for One comment" thread.. where you advertise that for every comment you recieve, you'll give that person one.
It's worked for me.

pros:
1. fun people
2. diverse styles
3. challenges are fun
cons:
1. Some people take themselves wayyyyy too seriously.
2. Bitching.
3. A certain style/aesthetic is rewarded, anything not conforming is slammed.
4. No "ignore poster" button in the forums (mostly for the people covered by con #1)

Pros:
1. This is huge: DPChallenge is an INCREDIBLE MOTIVATOR to get me out there taking pictures. Before DPChallenge, I took pictures every couple months. Now it's at least a couple times a week! Without DPChallenge I doubt I would be as passionately into photography as I am today.
2. Looking at other peoples' pictures inspires me to improve my own.
3. The opportunity to have my pictures viewed by thousands of people from all around the world.
4. The sense of community, and the feeling of being around people with a similar passion for photography.
Cons:
1. Sometimes I worry that I may become too concerned about pleasing the voters, rather than just pleasing myself. Having said that, though, I do feel that I make a good effort to take photos that please BOTH the voters AND myself! I think that a successful image on DPC is one that taps into the common unconsciousness that we ALL share.
2. Photos that are very good but not "mainstream" tend to not score very highly.

I love the site.
But the moaning and groaning every contest about something is horrible.
Other then that, its all good. |

I love the site... i love the fact it puts me outta my square and makes me think more... i also like the fact you can have dissagreement with something, then all can be forgotten..im also a person that try's to read what the artist is saying through their work ( even if it's not my taste ) ... this site i find the majority are the opposite, its all about what they want you to see, and give you their opinium, which is fine.. im learning that others think and see this way... so bottom line to me ... I love the site as their are so many different tastes and opinium's and it makes me learn more about how to understand these people.. all in all a GREAT learning tool for me.....

I agree with all the pros! The 1 I would like to add is:
This is like one big family - you can instantly have friends from around the world that will do just about anything for you - as I would for anyone that needed my help. With that note - If ya need anything or want to try out a lens or 2 that I have - let me know - happy to help!
Special thanks to all those who have already touched my life! ;) |

Pros:
1. Has helped improve my photography
2. Non-stop entertainment
3. Great people, great variety of people
Cons:
1. Increased my spending on photography "essentials" (10 woodies, 6 rubber ducks, fake blood, etc.)
2. Non-stop entertainment
3. Should be called "Digital Bitching and Moaning" or "Narrow Minded Voters" or "Inside The Box"
***just kidding on #3! ...the people here aren't that great. muwahahaha. Ok, really - just kidding about the bitching and moaning. There is a fair bit of it, but without that kind of stuff, we wouldn't have Chit Rabbinton, now would we?
Here was my backup list:
Prose: bear_music, GeneralE, zeuszen
Ex-Cons: Chit Rabbinton

Pros:
1.This place is trully unique.
2.It gives you purpose and a place to explore your personality through photography. Unlike family and friends, bored to death with 'what do you think of this one?', you can get an honest considered opinion.
3.The wealth of information, freely shared, is incredible.
4.The wit, wisdom and the wide spectrum of personalities of DPC'ers makes everyday different and entertaining.
5. It gives you confidence in your photography so that you can go outside of DPC with your work and know that you probably won't be laughed at.
Cons:
I haven't really noticed this 'bitching' some are complaining about.
