I will start:
Pro’s
1. A place I can participate in photography challenges.
2. Reading threads that have helpful information about hardware and software pertaining to photography.
3. Viewing great photographs that in return can hopefully help me improve.
4. Helpful tutorials.
Con’s
1. Very little comments or feedback given out in respect to the past.
2. A lot of bitching a griping.
3. Some users being defensive when you give a critique or comment on their photograph.
4. Spirit of challenges (staying on topic) being pushed to the limit and beyond and then complain about low scores.
5. Giving high scores to photographs that clearly does not meet the challenge.
6. The community has seemed to be breaking up into groups. If you’re not in your out.
7. Users feeling that changes are not needed as the site grows.

Pro's
1.I second all yours
2.Infinite amounts of experience to pool from and learn.
3.Creative environment to stimulate action
4.Amazing people that have a common interest and are willing to engage in relationships.
5.Contacts in the world of photography all over the world
6.GTG that again strength knowledge, relationships, quality of life and so on.
7.Huge link to the marketing side of selling photographs. (dpc print) might not be the biggest, but its a lot more than one individual photographers site would get in a short amount of time
8.Resume opportunities through creative challenges forcing the creative minds and abilities
9.I can go on for hours
Con's
1.Don't really have any... maybe this is because I am new and don't have any expectations based on previous presidence. I have had nothing but positive experience. Yes there is a bit of complaining but it only affects me if I allow it to and thus I am fine. Majority of time I find it humorous.

Well, last year I'd say there weren't enough eligible single females on the site... but now I'm engaded!
:P
"bitching" is what the internet is all about. I've been online since 1992 and bitching has been there the whole time.
As for what is obviously in or out of the scope of a challenge. People are individuals, and often you've missed an indicator in the photo of eligibiity. There are optical illusions that some people may see and others wont. One of art's pinnacles is in it's subtlety's.
That's not saying some are totally off. I've seen gorgeous photos posted (ie: beautiful sunset entered in a challenge like "steel"). Often, they know it's out of scope but captured such a nice moment they just want it to be seen. They usually don't complain.
Then there are one's who have a great subtlety and do complain when people take things so stringently and narrowly that they miss the eligibility of a photo. But that's life...
No biggie...
If I were to say my biggest complaint...under my home there needs to be a link to access your "Display" profile so you can view it as non-edit without searching for your self under profiles. ;)

Is that not what the "My Profile" link is? |

Well if we are going to list cons like this then there should be a [2] [3] [last] button next to every thread title so I don't have to navigate through the first page everytime. And when I post on page 3 for instance I should come right back to the same page instead of being sent back to the original post. This I think would also vastly speed up the site.

No, that enters your profile in edit mode. However, if you send that link to someone so they can view your portfolio it doesn't work.
And nbsca7, there is a solution to that. Set your profile to reverse the thread. I always am brought to the last (most current) page.

What link shows up when you click on 'My Profile' from the 'My Home' menu?
This is the link I get when I do that: //www.dpchallenge.com/profile.php

Its not edit mode at all its simply a link for you to "view" your profile. I do get what your saying though. If you send that to someone else it will simply take them to their own profile or a page saying to register if they don't have an account.
A quicker way to get your actually profile link for other users is this;
1. My Home>My Profile
2. Scroll down and click on "Selected Photographs from Portfolio" link on your page.
3. Click on "Your Username Collection" link on the top left.
4. Copy and Paste the URL at the top and send it to who ever you want.
It seems like a long way around, but after you do it once it gets quite efficient. That or remember your user id and the default "//www.dpchallenge.com/profile.php?USER_ID=???????" link and type yours in at the end. Or search like you do everytime. I like the first method its easy.

Well I agree with many of the Pros so far, but wanted to create an addendum to JayWalk's note about having a question immediately answered.. and that is - ".. and it doesn't even have to be about photography." :)

That's no good, because then when you go to a thread you haven't read before that already has several pages it starts at the end instead of the first post. Not a BIG deal either way I guess.
