The "Time Capsule" challenge is interesting because everybody has a completely different take on what is "worthy" of a particular year/style. For example, I've had comments ranging from "brilliant!" to "I don't see how that fits for **** year?" I won't give away specific details on my picture...but I will say that the subject is dressed in clothing that I feel represents the given year, based on my experience and associations. Where I live, everybody (at least younger girls) dress the way that my picture represents. But very few people are able to see that. I think a lot of older people are completely out of touch with "modern" fashions, styles, etc. That's a problem when it comes to a challenge like this. I COULD be 100% literal with my interpretation of a particular year...but should I have to, just so other people don't have to break out of their comfort zone to understand that styles come and go and that not everyone dresses the same in every part of the country and/or world? Am I complaining...yes, a little bit. More than anything it's making me realize how limited most people are in their ability to think open minded (and maybe even do a little research!). Alright, enough complaining. I'm over it. Just thought I'd vent a little bit. ***deep breath*** Now it's your turn :-)

Lesson number one: you can't change the audience. If you want to score well, or sell well in real life, present what your audience wants. Your average viewer attention span (here, and many other places) is going to be about three seconds. If it doesn't click by then, you're going to be out of luck.

If it makes you feel better, though, I got suckered into thinking that an emulation of photojournalism from a particular period would do well, though possibly I'm just getting hammered for having included more than the year alone in the title. Three comments, all positive, and a score in the low fours.

I really should have known better than to enter a contest with a broken description, anyway, and twice over should have known better than to go for realism.

Well, I'm taking the lesson to heart this time. No more submissions without serious eye candy.

I agree. For the past few months, I've been throwing something together at the last minute for each challenge instead of taking my time and submitting a great picture. I'll focus on the "eye candy."
