I just got the grip for my, ahem, Canon too. I've been wondering, who honestly gets the grip for the extra functions the grip gives you, and who gets it just for the "badass" or gadget factor? I for one got it for the extra functions, but the badass factor is pretty cool. :-) |

I don't know about the vertical grip, but the wired remote modification looks very interesting - has anybody done it? Good idea/bad idea? |

i shoot mostly vertical--for magazine layouts mostly. If i had a wider lens i'd probably shoot horizontal more...as it is my vertical grip is much more comfortable, and holds 2 batteries.

I got the grip for the rebel for the convenience of holding two bateries and the vertical position.
But as Telehubbie says, the badass factor it's great!!!

Actually I have a black Rebel (300d). So it doesn't makes a diference in the color, but it does in size, and looks great.

How come you bought the harbortronic one? it's only slightly cheaper, than the hoodman. And the Hoodman one seems way better. //www.hoodmanusa.com/powergrip.asp |

Why do you say that the hoodman one is better? I would think that anything hard wired in like the Harbortronics release would have better response than the Hoodman, which links in to the IR release with fiberobtics.

In my case I got it for the vertical grip when using the 70-200/2.8. I shoot 50% in portrait mode, and with the right wrist 'over' the camera I was getting stiff/sore in the forearm and shoulder when covering sports for the paper...
Having said that, I've not taken it off since I got it, I think it makes the camera much nicer to hold, as I've got largeish hands, and my pinkie 'falls off' the bottom of the camera otherwise...
Just my 2c worth.
