Overuse of rescuing lost shadow detail spoils many of these. |

actually, i wasn't 'rescuing lost shadow detail' ;-)
the weekly paper doesn't print with as high a quality paper and inks as the daily does, much less a glossy, and consequently the colors tend to bleed a bit, and the finer details get lost. i've been experimenting with pushing the edges out a bit in terms of sharpening and contrast in an effort to make the newsprint images pop a bit more.
i'm finding a world of difference between preparing images for newsprint and for photo printing.
all the same, thanks for your comment--it spurned me on to go back and revisit and explore a number of different sharpening techniques, some of which have produced some very interesting results. |

Okay, fair enough! I've noticed this myself... I always make sure my photos are oversharpened depending on where they're going to be published. Thanks for sharing your ongoing adventures! |
