I just installed a Linksys Wireless Router, I configured it through the web broswer interface using "Firefox"..
Now my Internet Explorer won't work at all.
Mozilla works fine and IE works on the other PC on the network.
Any ideas/thoughts/tips..
I can provide more info if needed.
Thanks,
Buzz

It has fixed many problems for me. Do you have XP and Broadband. If so set it to automatically update.

look for network options in your IE preferences. Setting up your router using a browswer vs. a command shell or anything else should not matter. Probably your IE is trying to use a connection that doesn't exist anymore or it is set to work offline.
once it is fixed, stop using it until it is better than firefox. :-)
it is very important to keep XP updated. Just make sure the pop-up icons really are for windows update. You can also go directly to: //update.microsoft.com
but only using IE.

Possibly a proxy issue ...
In Firefox, check to see if you're set up to use a proxy. It should be on the General tab, under connections.
Then check to see if IE is set to use the same settings (on the Connections tab, click the button at the bottom if memory serves).

If you have Firefox, why do you want IE to work? |

Funniest question yet. I agree and hardly ever use IE but there are those few websites out there that don't work with Firefox. For instance I must pay my bills using IE.

If you haven't tried this already, it may be worth a try:
Launch IE. Got to the tools pulldown menu. Select Internet Options. Click on the connections tab. Select never dial a connection. Apply and okay as necessary to exit the window. Close IE. Relaunch and see what you get. Good luck. HTH.

googling C\Windows\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm brings up a lot at various tech forums.
here is one that seemed to work for the poster:
//www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/WinXP/Q_21106580.html
some of gets fairly in-depth, not sure how techie you are. |

Are sure you haven't configured your IE to connect through a proxy? Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings... > uncheck everything except "Automatically detect settings". You may have used a proxy before router.

Have you ruled out the router?
Plug your computer directly into the modem and try.
Could also be a firewall.

Update:
I checked my Norton Firewall Settings and it was set to "Block All" for Internet Explorer. I changed it to "Automatic" and IE runs fine now.
I use Firefox 99% of the time, but there is still a rare occcasion I need IE, so its good to know its fixed.. |
