Here's the scenario;
Couple of weeks ago I went to the zoo with my family. I filled up my
512 card so I popped in the ol' xdrive and started to copy files over.
I used a 128 while that was going on. It finally finished, so I
switced the cards, transferring the 128 files and putting the 512 back
in my camera. At this point life is good! Then I filled the 512 again.
So once again I started to down load the 512 card. But this time I got
an error on my xdrive that I had not seen before. When I got home I
looked through the manual found that the error was indcating that my
drive was full. I was using about 22 gigs of the 30 gig drive. I
thought "weird" but ok. So I cleaned it up a bit down to using only
8 gigs. Seemed to work fine now. I went on vacation last week,
started to download my 512 card and again I got the error that
indicated that the drive is full. What gives? I'm going to try
defraging and then maybe re-formating to see if that helps, but
what do you guys/gals think? |

I've had this issue, and I still don't know what caused it. I was using around 8.8 GB of 20 GB. I would recommend a defrag/format as you say.

Depends a bit on which XDrive you have; our old one would through up some odd errors (which might have been drive full, can't remember) if the CF card was fragmented - which could happen if you deleted just some of the images from the card and kept shooting.
There was a firmware fix for that but I never got around to applying it and just made sure not to bother deleting individual pictures from the card instead - just shoot until full, copy to the XDrive and then reformat the card in the camera.
But that might have nothing to do with your problem :)

I will give that a try! Because I think I did delete an image or two
before downloading. But, I always format after reloading the card into
my camera. |

I didn't have any further issues, but I can't remember how much I've used on the disk this time.

Thanks guys! I finally got a chance to play with this and
sure enough Pete was right on! I just have to delete images after I
have downloaded them! |
