Your math involves 13/1.6=8.125
"New math" says (sqrt(13)/1.6)^2=5.078
Not my fault you're stuck using "old" math :P |
OK, I got 5.078125Mp. Thanks for the correction. The other I just did in my head real quick.
But with the 1.3 crop on my 1D Mark II the crop on a FF 13Mp would be 8.2479Mp. That would mean the pixel density is about the same between the proposed 5D and the 1D Mark II . sqrt(13)/1.3)^2=8.2479

Calm down folks! Some of you are catching 'upgrade fever'.
Just ask yourself - do you really 'need' to upgrade?
Is it going to improve your photo's? Heck I can take crap photos with any camera - be it worth £10 or £5,000.
I can also take decent photos with any camera - be it worth £10 or £5,000.
I always find it amusing that some people just have to upgrade because 'they have to'

When a £10 camera gets a blue ribbon on DPC, I'll pay for the camera myself.

I have to. I want a full frame DSLR. I would shoot with a $100 dollar Spotmatic but I don't have to. I want the best tools available so I can blow things up the way I want. With film cameras it was different for me. One good body would get used until I wore it out (damn near impossible in the case of the Nikons and Pentaxs I had). It din't make much difference to me because I bought the best film to go in those aged bodies. The best "film" now is the best sensor. That's what I want.
I have the money and the inclination, so what is the big deal? I'll be dead in 30 years.

Anyone care to translate ! |
There's not much to translate really. Price and date are unknow. They are accepting pre-orders.
Koopdigitaal/Konijnenberg has done this before. Throw something onto the net based on rumors. Sometimes they were close, sometimes very wrong.
They are a good dealer, I get all my stuff from them and their lens displays in the shop are like walking into a dream. Because they work with journalists and landscape/wildlife enthousiasts they can get good deals with the importers as well.
The only thing that perhaps is hard to read is the drie beelden per seconde = 3fps.

I installed the new firmware update for my 350D last night and noticed in the same drop down box there was a 20Da model, but it contained no information. It said "coming soon." Is that the new model?

The 20Da is the IR version of the 20D, which was previously only available in Japan, but is shortly gonna be on sale worldwide. It's only really of interest to astronomers who want to photograph a wider spectrum, rather than for general use (ISTR).

Quote from the DPReview article:
"Comprehensive range
... all launched since April last year:
EOS-1Ds Mark II – 16.7 Megapixel full frame 35 mm sensor, 4 fps
EOS-1D Mark II N – 8.2 Megapixel APS-H size sensor, 8.5 fps
EOS 5D – 12.8 Megapixel full frame sensor, 3 fps
EOS 20D – 8.2 Megapixel APS-C size sensor, 5 fps
EOS 350D Digital – 8.0 Megapixel APS-C size sensor, 3 fps"
Impressive stuff.

And suffer the pain of 17.5% import duty? Doesn't make it that much cheaper in the end...

There's no duty on gifts. Just buy one from B&H, have it sent to me, I'll use it a while, then ship it to you wrapped up in holiday gift wrap when I'm done.
I also have this great opportunity for you involving my rich Nigerian friend and $10,000,000.00.................

That's true, but there'd also be no insurance should the item be lost in transit...

Why does the Canon website say this camera is coming in September? I thought this one was already out?

I've bought a lot of stuff from B&H, and it's always saved me money. Canon branded goods have the biggest savings, I find.

Whether it's sent from a company or an individual, UPS/etc still offer insurance.

Canon 70-200/2.8L IS:
From B&H, including UPS 3-5 day and VAT/duty: £1178
From DigitalFirst.co.uk including shipping: £1,307
I'll take that 9%, thank you.

Speculate now for me please:
What are the chances that the price of 20D goes down now that the 5D is announced? They are not really aimed at the same audience, I guess.
It is human to keep hoping though... |
