I was wondering if anyone has heard anything definite yet on the new Canon body that is supposed to come on the market in the next severl weeks. There is a lot of buzz out there, but I haven't heard anything more then speculation and rumors.
The reason I am asking is that I am about to purchase a 1Ds Mark II. If the new release is a FF body the price on the 1Ds Mark II will surely drop. Would it be wise to wait a few weeks or is all this Buzz just BS?

By chance I was speaking to my old Canon rep today about a lens...I asked her if there was anything new on the horizon and she said not that she knew of....but then again here in Australia we are the last ones to get them! :p

I would speculate that if Canon is preparing any new launches, it would be either in the D2X range or a 20Ds. There's this new 20Da, but that's a rather exotic development and quite pricey, too. |

If you want some action from the rumour mill, I've heard the 1D mkII is coming to the end of its production, so maybe there will be a 1D mkIII.

Please...Canon can never develop anything in the range of the D2X -- it's just too good a camera. haha just kidding, I suppose, bump for ya.

A 'canon body release' sounds like a killer new move from wrestling. As does 'canon powershot'. Incidentally, the 'Fuji finepix' is no longer permitted in the wrestling world because of the many instances of spandex chafing. |

Well, the Canon 1D MII is nearling 1.5 years and seeing from the last cycle, it was 1D MII with Digic II, then 20D with Digic II, 1DsMII, and then the Rebel XT bsed on 20D with Digic II.
So my next guess is a 1D MIII is up on the recycling schedule to compete with the new Nikon 2DHs.
The rumor mills are hot right now. I've heard anywhere from August 15-17 as the news release date.
Personally, with the 2DX at $4999, the 1DsMII seems overpriced at $7999. Who knows, by christmas, there might be another round of rebates, even for the 1DsMII.
Your guess is good as mine or anyone elses for that matter.

The 1D competes with the D2Hs, let alone the mkII or mkIII. :-)
May I ask if you're slightly dyslexic?

What about the new Canon full frame "tweener" cam, the EOS 5D.

HIGHLY unlikely that it would be full frame...
...and if it is a full frame Canon will have trumped Nikon once again...Nikon always trying to play catchup anyways...

I'm sure this is just as meaningless:
From //www.infodigitalcamera.com/
(very bottom)
"The latest rumors is that Canon 20D will be succeeded by the Canon 30D. There has been talk that the Canon 30D will be released in August 2005 and possibly in Australia and/or Europe. Initial specification is that it will have 10 megapixel. These rumors could be true as the 350D / Rebel XT was release in Australia and Europe before the US and considering Australia is closer to Japan and Asia than the US is. Again, I will keep you posted as more information arrives. If you here of anything, please let me know through the feedback section and I'll post it as soon as possible for our viewers."
Another source of information is here, but I hear the folks on that website are HIGHLY irrational when it comes to talking about cameras, and should not be trusted...

I personally don't care about megapixels as long as it's 6+.
Full frame is cool.
But 3fps? No way I'd buy that thing...twice the cost of the 20d and 3 frames? Yuck.
Edit: Jere Keskiaho said it well in that thread...
"If it has these specs, it looks like 1DS MKII and 1D MK II where this "5D" would be 1DS and 20D 1D MKII. So no improvements mostly sports shooter like me. Of course this would be goos to have as a second camera, but it will be too pricey."

ΓΆ€ΒΆ 13mpix fullframe sensor (EF)
No thanks, I like the zoom in the cropped sensor. Plus I don't think my computer is fast enough to handle hundreds of 13MB sized RAW images from an outing. I don't make prints, especially large like 20x30's. 10MP would be ideal for me.
ΓΆ€ΒΆ 3 fps (max 60 in JPG)
20D has 6fps, and I don't shoot JPEG
ΓΆ€ΒΆ 9 point AF
9? I only use the center one as it is.
ΓΆ€ΒΆ 2.5" LCD
That I like
ΓΆ€ΒΆ DIGIC II
As is 20D
ΓΆ€ΒΆ USB 2.0
I use a card reader
Well, if this 5D thing comes out, I guess I won't be getting it. Let's hoep that Canon discounts or has rebates on the 20D by the end of the year. I was hoping for a 20D replacement, but a new 1DMIII or the "tweener" seems more rational to me. I just hope all these new cameras and maybe the D200 from Nikon that's rumored to be coming out lowers the 20D's price.

Well I didn't sell my 1D mark II. With all this about a new release I think people are holdig back from buying anything like what I have for fear the value might go down as soon as the new model is released. I had a $3200 reserve on a 5 month old mint condition body and the auction only went up to $3150.
I was selling this to get money up for a 1Ds Mark II. I think I will still have enough by the end of the week to get the camera anyway and I will just keep both.

If it's real or fake, who knows. BUT, my sources at canon told me in April that there would most likely be a medium range FULLFRAME body out by September. They mentioned 3D at that time, this just makes complete sense to me. If it's faked, well all the credit to that guy for coming up with those photso/text.
I think this is real, but I don't know. Still, I won't upgrade. Primarly for one reason only: weather sealing.
For long I was *hoping* for a 1D MkII replacement, since I've decided to go that route.. Looks like I might have to wait yet another 6months for that one..
Jacko spotted a nice detail in 5D .pdf, at the bottom table: 430Ex.
Just like last year about the same time, they released 20D and 580Ex.
Let's wait this one out and see ;-)

might drop the prices of 1Ds's like rocks... I'll be picking up a FF camera down the road. For now 4.2mp is enough without cropping. However, having a Digic II chip would be sweet for me. Low noise like woah, and the ability to do shutter speeds well over 1 second without the bad results is so very tempting!

I need the FF. But even if this new body is FF I will probably still get the 1Ds Mark II. I like the large heavy body. Helps steady things. Maybe I should wait a week to see what happens. (price drop)

If you look at the fredmiranda threads that link to a few different sources, it'll be tough not to be convinced that this is the real deal.
The author of the .pdf works in advertising for the company that released the info for the 20d when it came out. |
