Here's my quick version (hope you don't mind). Boosted contrast a bit & ran it thru NeatImage.
You have some haloing going on, especially around the cactus. This is probably from the way you resized the image. |

Did you use a polarizer filter?

No. The sky was very dark but the sun was lighting the cactus.
