i have to shoot a couple bands tonight and i know the venue has some cool lighting effects going for it but i just wanted to know what everyone suggested for my camera settings. i'll be shooting w/ a sony dsc-f717 and a canon rebel thanks a lot

I have shot several bands - it really depends on the lighting conditions - usually the lighting for less professional bands is not that good - and using a flash often makes you loose what lighing effects they have. So I would definitely open up your lens and you will probably be shooting 400 - 800 ISO and be pushing 1/50th - It's hard to capture with out blur - so tripod is always good but often not pratical in those atomospheres - and all faster movements will be blurred sightly at this speed. If you are shooting with a rebel and have lots of card space I would shoot in RAW also - so you can bump up the exposure if you need to. Take a few test shots and look at your histogram - it doesn't lie :P good luck
