I know this is probably a basic question, but can anyone tell me how to soften blown highlights on a shot, and still follow the basic editing rules? Thanks in advance.

What editing program do you use? If you have Photoshop CS you can use the Shadows/Highlights too.

Shadows/highlights is legal in basic? I would think that since different adjustments are applied to selective parts of the image that it wouldn't be.

The overall filter, if applied to the whole image, is legal in basic, yes.

Just do curves. secure the center and lowe ends and then bend the curve on the highlight area towards the dark.

Obviuosly I am going to have to upgrade. At this point I am only using PS Elements. It was given to me, so I couldn't complain. These highlights aren't too bad, but I know I'll get roasted if I submit this photo as it is. Thanks for any help.
