I've been talking to people who have attempted to use two lenses, with the external one reversed for sharp and increased macro photography.

What is the approximate magnification rule? mag = body lens/inverted lens ??

If I have a 60mm macro lens, with a 24mm inverted on the outside, is the ratio 2.5:1 or I am doing that wrong?

Anyone have suggestions for making this setup work without an adapter ring?! (have a very old 24mm Minolta lens on a Nikon 60mm) Or any other tips for this type of setup?

Thanks!

There have been quite a few threads on this, not that finding them is easy! I won't try at the moment, but to address some of you questions...
Approx. Mag. = M+Fr/Fn, where M = max magnification of the normally mounted lens, Fr is the focal length in mm of the reversed lens, and Fn is the focal length of the normally-mounted lens. So a 60mm with a 24mm reversed should give 2.5:1, plus magnificaton of the 60mm. If that's 1:1, then you should approach 3.5:1! The distance between the lenses will affect the achievable magnificaton somewhat, so your mileage may vary.
You can prolly get a good idea of how this will work by simply holding the lenses together. If the results seem worth pursuing further, then an adapter ring is a very cheap purchase. You should not need to spend over $10 for a macro coupler ring. You just need to determine the thread sizes of the two lenses involved. Worst case, use a step ring on one lens plus the macro coupler.
Be advised that with focal lengths of 60mm & 24mm, the working distance will be incredibly short. It's very short with the reversed setup I use, which is a 100mm macro lens with a 50mm reversed, and will be even shorter with your setup, I believe.

I have the 105mm macro with 50mm inverted and the focussing distance is roughly 1-2cm.
