Yes I received them Lisa. I compared them a test shot I did today. Everything seems to be ok in the EXIF (What it tells me). Your SS on both pictures was recorded at 1/60. When you say it alway says 30. Is that displayed 30 or 30''. I have been doing some reading and have found that a few people had a similar problem while shooting in the full auto mode.
I would suggest the AV mode. That will allow you to adjust the aperture with the mail dial by the shutter button. Also try to up the ISO instead of using the flash unless you are trying to fill flash.
I don't know if you seen my example or test shot above. It was in a room with no lights on. Only a window to the right and it was not bright outside. I turned on the flash light to show how dim it was in the room. In the AV mode at ISO 400, without a flash I was able to get the picture at 1/25 SS. The only time in AV mode my camera went to 30" was with the lens cap on.
Is thing coming along better now???

Um.. you're not supposed to be able to set the shutter setting on Av.. that's the Aperature priority. You set shutter on Tv :) (and on Manual)

Mine reads 30" too until I remove the lens cap. The dial right behind the shuter button controls the aperture in av mode. The shutter speed will ajust by itself according to what the ISO settings are set at and how much light is coming through the lens. Turn of the flash.

the lens cap isnt on. No matter what i do it doesnt adjust itself. I am still going tomorrow cause they can show me what i am doing wrong (if anything), and if there is a problem they can change my camera to one that works.

This is true....it's in the manual....camera sets the shutter speed when you have AV selected and vise versa when you have TV selected.
