What is a good software program to interpolate images? Alamy recommends Genuine Fractals but I can't find it on the site they link to. Is using the "Image Size" in Photoshop good enough?

Using the step approach to resizing, 10% at a time, can provide very good results. Whether it's good enough for Alamy you'll probably have to ask them.

Fred Miranda sells "Resize Pro", an exceptionally good program, for a fraction of the cost of Genuine Fractals. All the reviews and tests I have seen give it exceptionally high marks, most of them scoring it better than Genuine Fractals.

Extensis Pxl Smartscale is good too.

Genuine Fractals used to be (until a week ago!) owned by LizardTech, however apparently they've sold it to onOne Software - who also, it turns out, now own pxl SmartScale too.

Looks like they've been on a shopping spree!

I think Geniune Fractals is pretty good, and is slightly ahead of PS bicubic. If you're using it for an Alamy QC process, the demo should give you enough for 15 submissions. (I believe the limit is 20 images.)

Here's a comparison sample I produced for GF vs. PS.

Edit: Is that image above broken for anyone else? The actual link works ok - just click! :-)

As Bear_music mentioned, resize pro is good. I've upsized photos for Alamy using it and they've never complained... Price is right too.

I posted this in another thread:

Apparently Genuine Fractals and pxlSmartScale have now changed hands and are being sold by onOne Software.

I emailed the Tech Support and asked what the difference was in the two packages and this was the reply I got back:

Greetings,

Basically it'll come down to bit depth and to a certain degree content. Genuine Fractals can work with 16-bit images and SmartScale currently does not. The other difference is that Genuine Fractals is known to work a little bit better with organic shapes and colors while SmartScale tends to be better with graphics and objects with a hard line. Both products can co-exist in Photoshop so you may just want to get both trial versions and see which one is better for you.
