While photographing the setting sun from near Taos, New Mexico last week, I captured this "average" sunset shot:
Turning around, I noticed on the opposite horizon, a rare display of "anti-crepuscular" rays, where the rays of the setting sun, filtering though the clouds, appear to converge at the opposite (eastern) horizon due to the perspective effect:

I really like the first sunset, so in no way do I thinks its average.
But, the one on back end is certainly unique and unusual.
Very nice photos ! |

Thanks for the mini-lesson.
Your sample of anti-crepuscular rays is better than a lot of the sites that are setup to teach about it.

The 'bump' worked...I certainly wasn't up at 2am to see this. ;^)
Your photos are very interesting. I've not heard of anti-crepuscular rays before - now I have, and need to learn more! Thanks for sharing this.

There were some gorgeous golden rays visible from the East Bay last night. Unfortunately, my only view which was even semi-unobstructed was from the freeway. RGB curves and noise-reduction; I was playing around and decided I liked the "Winterscape" look ...
