There have been a few times that I tried to layer basically, the same shot with different exposure settings (one for shadows, and one for hilights) and have been having a heck of a time.

The shots were done hand-held, and not exactly lined up. So, when I try to layer them, there is a bit of a perspective issue I believe. It's more than just sliding the frame to the right position, or a slight rotation. If I get one part of the shot to be aligned, other parts are not.

Using PSP, anyone have any tips on how to accomplish clean alignment throughout the two layers?

Thanks!!

PSP - Paint Shop Pro? I use PI and it has a function for that called HDR - High Dynamic Range. I would recommend using a tripod if at all possible. Is there a 'registration' function/option when you have multiple images open? (this would align the images and you crop off the uneven edges)

I used the tecnique described on Luminous Landscape, but I shot mine using a tripod. Here is the result:

It's a combination of a dark image (highlighting the sky):

and of a lighter image highlighting the foreground:

Like I said, I used a tripod, so everything lined up quite well.

I think you will have a hell of a time trying to get things to line up. I am in no way a Photoshop pro, but maybe this can help.

Alienyst: Yes, Paint Shop Pro (Version 8).

I don't recall a HDR or registration function (not automatic, anyway). But, I guess I'll have to poke around a bit more.

Beagleboy: That's exactly what I'm trying to accomplish (haven't yet checked the luminois landscape link).

A tripod would help immensly, but I didn't bother to carry it with..my bad.

About the only thing I can think of (saw reference to it in a different context) is to mark some manual registration points and use the deform or perspective correction tool. But, I haven't had a lot of luck mastering them.

Thanks for the tips.

edit: BTW, nice work Beagleboy.
