It was about 5 cm(2 inches) long.



Another shot.


When it flew at me I pointed my camera at it. No where to run. Ick. those shots were just a blur.

It's a wasp, and so are hornets.

The black ones are dirt dobbers - they are not very agressive. They build thier nests out of mud. ( at least in Texas )

The wasp pictured is not a mud or dirt dauber. The pedicel (thin area between the thorax and the abdomen) is much longer on a mud dauber. If I was to guess I would say Cricket Hunter.
