I've been trying to upload a couple of shots I took yesterday, and am being frustrated by the site creating 'medium size' versions of them with atrocious halos and jpeg artefacts everywhere - v annoying.

The three files are respectively 130, 132, and 128 Kb as i've been trying to upload. The site produces mediums of the 128 and 132 K files, but not the 130. I can understand the process being there to make enormous files easily visible - but these are below challenge entry sizes!

Anyone know what's going on, how to avoid it, or what it's for?

Ed

I've happily uploaded files upto 180K without this happening before - and I'm only about up to half my 10Mb space.

Thought I'd share the information that Drew has just imparted to me.

If you up-load a file that is larger in any one dimension than 640 pixels, a medium size version is created for viewing use on the site.

What I'd done is re-size an image to 630xsomething, added a 5 pixel symmetrical border, and presumed that would be a 640 pixel wide image - on checking they've actually saved as 641 wide.
