today I saw this Mushroom(?) in between the blades of grass, does any body know if it is truly a mushroom or something else, less than ½â in diameter and almost transparent, as thin as a leaf

I found this growing along a bike trail in Paris, Ontario, Canada beside the Grand River

These same mushrooms pop up most every morning in my yard here in Maine. I almost submitted a macro shot of one in the textures III challenge. Looking back now I wish I would have.

The proper name is Japanesse Umbrella Inky Coprinus plicatilus

They are quite common down here in Alabama, usually in short grass after a rain. They are, by the way, edible, but have no benificial psychoactive side affects.
