I was thinking about getting a long telephoto (zoom) lens, but as of tomorrow I will have an Sigma 70-210 f2.8 so instead of a Tokina 80-400 or similar I'm thinking of getting the Kenko 3x to use with the Sigma.
Is this a good idea?

Don't get a 3x teleconverter, particularly if you plan on using it with a zoom. The results will be, well, underwhelming. Get a 1.4x. A 2x is useable, but even that's pushing it; you'll have to stop down from what will already be a slow f/5.6 max aperture, so it will be usable in vrey good light only.

Also (kirbic or someone) correct me if I'm wrong. When you go above the 1.4x converter you loose you ability to Autofocus in most cases. Some 2.0x converter you may be able to achieve autofocus using center but I don't think a 3.0x you will be able too. |

The 3x is not a good idea.
