A few months ago everything i bid for on ebay i lost, i was sniped at the last minute all the time. It go to the point unless i could Buy It Now, i could not buy it at all.

Well, that changed recently. I assisted at a wedding a few weeks back and go to use some Lumedyne flash equipment. Nice stuff, expecially the portability part. not sure it as the total power for studio use, but I don't plan on using it primarly for that anyway.

So i looked at the stuff at b&h - a one light set up (flash head, power pack (control), battery and charger (and cables of course) runs $850-1300. Ugh me thinks.

So this set up comes up on ebay, an earlier model i think (so what - a flash is a flash) //cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7533171187
It looks like these components at b&h would add up to over $1100 plus cables. I place a low ball bid, forget about it, come home from work and I won the bloody thing!

I won a similar item last week, a 100 ws strobe on a vivitar 283 body, with 2 batteries and charger for $60. I need a wein optical trigger for it, and i guess maybe for hte other one too...radio slaves are not cheap. i guess i might want a flash meter too....

I have had the run of ebay steals too recently. I bought a Canon 70-200/2.8 w/o IS for $750, then turned around and bought a Tamron 28-75 DI XR for $175. The trick for me was to find the ones without photos, bid stupid, then ask for a photo to make sure it is the real deal. Once you bid they cannot post any photos, so they are stuck with no other bidders but you, unless someone else ask for photos too. Stupid bids usually start around a dollar too.

I was only the second bid..$5 over the start. The control module is $256 at b&h, the flash head $130 or so, the power pack $663 or so. Lumedyne has many versions of things so once I get my grubby little hands on it i'll know more.

I am still shocked this went soooo cheap. I bid on something similar last week //cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7531249589 but lost it even thought i went above my max - aren't auctions fun?

It looks like the battery Kompartment holds 'two decks of sub-c cells' - i understand the sub-c part, not the 'two decks' bit. Any ideas?

I'm selling my old 220ex (perfect condition in box) on ebay at the moment! With 2 hours to go it's up to $122.50 (AUS) and I just bought of ebay a studio kit (softbox, flash with modelling light, small slave flash, 2 tripods with attachments for lights, silver and white umbrellas, slave trigger and spare globes) for $127.50 plus delivery! I think I got a bargain! :)
