Hi all

I just shot a graduation and I was wondering what the "legalities" were for putting up a personnal web photo gallery and sending the link to the students and posting the news on our school's website. Of course, none of the graduates or guests signed model releases.

Thx!

Hmmm.....I always thought that in this sort of situation if you shot the photos then it should be fine! I can't see a student complaining if they have the chance to see the photos that were taken?

Maybe someone can correct me here?

Feel free to post them as long as you aren't making some kind of profit. If at any time a student contacts you and wants their photo removed you'll have to comply.

Make it a password protected gallery, and add a note to the gallery saying that if anyone sees their photo posted there and they do not want it to be posted publicly, that they should contact you and the photo will be removed immediately. This would seem fair enough, dontcha think?

Just post them. This legal mumbo-jumbo is getting out of control.

If it's a public school you'll need to check with their Public Relations Department. I run a program for several school districts in my area. At the beginning of the year each child is required to have their parent or guardian sign a photo release form stating either yes you can use my photo or no you can't. When I submit a photo of kids in my program I then check the names against the file to see if the photo can be for public use. This is for the protection and privacy of the kids.
