I'm not reviewing all 600 photos in an open challenge to see if it's "too much" spot editing, but that's what would be required to enforce this rule. Maybe they can email all the originals to you and you can decide ... |
Sorry.. but with that logic, you should be reviewing all 600 photos in an open challenge to enforce the "no spot editing" rules as it is.. right?
Right? You *ARE* aren't you? Right? because *NOBODY* sneaks spot-editing into the myriad entries in each open challenge.. RIGHT!?

I'm not assuming, I'm basing it on the evidence of about 40 years of observing human behavior. A logical extrapolation is not an assumption. |
Let me get this straight - You are extrapolating that people will request a DQ on every clean image (600 of them) alleging that "more than dust was removed"??? Absurd.

I think that, knowing that "some" editing is now allowed, there will be a marked increase in both the temptation to cheat and the suspicion of it--together this will probably produce more DQ requests than we currently get; maybe not hundreds, but even ten would be a significant problem in getting all of them reviewed in time, especially as people are also clamoring for additional challenges.
I don't approve of taking simple rules and carving out exceptions, and I don't believe in fixing things which aren't broke, especially when the subsequent unexpected breakdown will mean more work for me : ) |

I still disagree. Simple test - have a Basic Editing challenge with one special rule exception: Cloning out dust specs is legal. See how many more DQ requests you get.

See, that's a little more logical a thought. lol. I honestly don't care either way. I can deal with a little sensor dust. I don't mark images down for it being there.. yadda yadda yadda.. but I just can't handle unrealistic arguements, which is what I saw your idea that every entry would have to be reviewed as. Also.. I think this thread might just end up making people start requesting DQs more often .. just as a side effect... now.
oops.

Are you saying that I didn't actually take a pic of Godzilla for the textures challenge, but that I PS'd him in??? ;-P

B
For the reasons others have said about it being subjective and thus hard for the SC to moderate.

Ya know, someone will fill the urge to clone out godzilla-size spots from his pics.

Any idea how to do this with a fixed-lens camera? I know at least one user who has a sensor dust issue on the Sony DSC-F717.

I change lenses very frequently, the idea of cleaning with each change is just silly

Becase that is the history of dpc.
I haven't been here since the beginning. But I have been here since the debate over the Advanced rules. The trend is that for every change, the negative effects predicted by those opposed to the change have come to be.

if you care enough to go get the shot, maybe you should care enough to check your equipment before heading out. if it's a higher score you're after, it ain't the dust that's holding you down. check out all the dust on this one...
or maybe they just have better looking dust in iceland and everyone else should be allowed to clone it out :P

hey guys...we're getting fired up for nothing. Just simply vote yes or no (A OR B) ... IF the A's won, then I'd say it would need some future consideration...but for now, let's try and keep things to a simple A or B.
