hrmm...something maybe a bit more open...
like "emergency services"
Fire, police, medical responders, the emergency service individuals are everywhere. Take a photo that shows ... blah I can't think...but that's more open, you know?

I don't know, I like the idea of just a fire fighting challenge... could be equipment, trucks, station life, actual fires, training exercises, etc. There are a lot of things one could photograph on that topic.
Emergency services is a very broad topic. EMTs, Paramedics, Fire, Police, Coast Guard, Red Cross, Fire Police, etc.

I'm just not sure I'd enjoy thumbing through 400 photos of firemen, fires, and fire trucks.

If it were like the hunky firemen calendars, I wouldn't mind at all. :-)
I think just emergency services would spark the usual "how should we interpret the challenge" debate and lots of "doesn't meet the challenge" comments. Besides, we wade through 400 flower pictures on a weekly basis, why not fire related paraphenalia?
