Any object at all that someone uses in their work. I think that the voters will expect something that is easily associated with a recognizable occupation, but that's a matter of personal opinion.

Think of any profession, and what implements they use to do their work. Chefs use knives and graters, carpenters use hammers and saws and planes, builders use nail guns, soldiers use rifles, mothers with babies use pacifiers and diapers (a stretch?), Saniutation workers use gloves and big trucks, landscapers use mowers and wee whackers, gardeners use trowels and spades, you get the idea.

For a given "profession", what visibly defines the work?

I agree with Kirbic at how the images should be easily recognizable with a profession. I was initially thinking of a slide rule, compass, t-quare, zipatone, and a pencil but the more I looked at the photo, the more I realized that these are almost obsolete items that people wouldn't even recognize them.

I'm in architecture and these are the tools of my trade but I guess I have to choose something that isn't as obvious and done very creatively.
