I think Harvey's right that 47 pages of Public Random Photo Thread was enough, and I understand why he started this new thread. I think it would be even better, though, if the administrators would create a permanent, dedicated PHOTO THREAD that works a bit differently than the regular topic-based thread.
For starters, I think that such a thread should always by default load in reverse order. That way, the new photos would always be posted at top. It would also be nice if the posts would automatically self-delete if/when the linked photo were deleted from the poster's portfolio, although I realize that may be asking a bit much. It might also be worth considering creating it in such a way that posts more than, say, 60 days old are automatically dropped; that should be easy enough to do.
I've made a half-dozen or so site suggestions that have all flopped, but I won't quit until I get one accepted so ya'll cheer this one on if you like it (lol)! |

Not against this suggestion, of course, but it seems to me the ideal solution would be to eliminate the need for a "Random Photo Thread". In fact, there's a feature perhaps too few people use that already does:
Under "Browse", there's Recently Uploaded
which would allow people to just upload, and hopefully, see some views, comments (and favorites) start to register in their profiles.

I once said this but never late to say it again...
I think there should be a place where the latest photos that where posted to a portfolio would show...
For example i posted a photo this night in my portfolio and it would should in that place...
Something like the most recent photos.

Maybe we need a more prominent link on the front page that would lead people directly to the Recently Uploaded section of the Browse galleries. I think Recently Uploaded serves the same purpose as the Random Photo threads but people don't use it much, perhaps because they don't know it's there.

i made similar suggestions here. i think one good idea would be to add the 'date uploaded' field to the list of portfolio entries, instead of 'date taken' (since most people don't fill it in anyway). |

this is different than the other pages in that it would be easy to glance at many pics with people making running commentary.
edit: clarification.

Isn't that exactly what Recently Uploaded is?
If not, sorry, I don't understand what you are suggesting... |

I think the best way to randomly display images from the portfolios would be the addition of a section of the front page that rotated images. It would need a checkbox in the portfolio for that image stating that it is one that would be on public display, but I think that would be it.
As for seeing the recently uploaded images, I still think my suggestion from last year is a good one. Create an additional forum in which the portfolio image pages make up the threads. When commented on, they would go back to the top of the list like any thread does in any other forum. A lot of the code is already in place between the portfolio pages, the forums and the 'recently commented' photo page, so it would be fairly do-able. Original suggestion here (link).
