I caught one of my daughters off guard and snapped this pic as soon as she turned her head when I called her name....taken with my new Sigma 100-300 which I am very much enjoying. The pic is uncropped, just resized with some USM.
Focal length 126mm at f6.3, 1/320, ISO 200, handheld.

Nice capture! Sharp focus and nic tight framing or crop. She's a cutie.

Sweet! Cute daughter too :)
Wonder if an even tighter crop removing the blue thing on the right and also a bit from the left will be even better. |

I wouldn't think so.. one of the things that makes this photo work in the candidness and the environment. Possibly a good cloning job to get rid of the blue might work, if it's that distracting, but I honestly didn't really register it myself until brought up.. the expression on the little girl is certainly strong enough.
I think we get too concerned with the "perfect" photo here.. and every time I see "You should clone that light spot out" or "Get rid of that thing in the corner.." and the like, I think.. gee, picky picky. lol
Still, it *is* a place to learn, and one thing to learn is to be aware of your backgrounds and environments while shooting.. so I'll put my "blah blah blah" away... for now ;)

I don't think it's being "picky" - sounds like she was suggesting simple ways to improve the appeal of the phot - take it from being a "look at this cute snapshot of my daughter" to something you could put in a frame over the mantle and it is not saying anything negative about the photo or photographer. So thanks for putting away your "blah blah blah" ;-)
I tried the crop and Artyste was right that it is better to clone out the blue spot. Here's a quick take:

lol.. yah, I apologize to arpita, I wasn't saying *she* was being picky.. just that a lot of people do tend to be.. she did have a strong suggestion. (although this shot does benefit from the negative space).
Just in a mood today I guess. Lousy weather this weekend, and I should be out taking my own shots of a cute little girl, but rain rain rain!! ARRGH.
Umm.. shoot.. where's that thread-hijacking image of yours priest? lol

Just use the kinder, gentler version of the Angry Villager...
edit: I was just wondering how many threads I have seen take off and go through waves of anger and then "hugs" and lectures, then some politics thrown in and end up with a hundred replies and the original poster never even came back to the thread. ROFL!!

I think they are all valid comments. I left this pretty much straight out of the camera (as I noted in the original post) for a couple reasons. One being to show off the lens (smaller version doesn't do it justice though), and another being the fact that in its current state it's a cute, impromptu shot of a cute girl, not an artistic masterpiece.
With that said, I will do some work on this before I print it (don't like the blue thing or the portion of the person sitting behind my daughter that kind of blends into her back in the lower left of the frame). I like what kpriest did (maybe a touch too neat imaged for me - but really nice otherwise). So I think those comments are right on point as well.
Now that this thread is back on track, I'll point out that the gist of the original post was simply to say, "ain't she a doll??" :-) |
