I have been asked to be the group photographer for the Continental Airlines group/1940's Hobby Terminal Museum group at the upcoming Oshkosh Air Show up in Wisconsin. They are providing the ticket for the trip up there and entrance into the events. No pay, but hey Im always good for a free trip.

This should be pretty fun. My dad tells me this is one of the best air shows around, lots of aircraft.

Anybody ever been to one of the shows up there?

It is the best air show in the USA. Your jaw will drop when you see the number of airplanes there. Every little space of real estate around the airport has a plane parked on it and all the little airports in driving distance are just as packed.

If you are at all interested in aviation you will have a blast!

Also, as planes are flying in, the airport is so busy they have planes landing in the middle and at the end of the runway at the same time. For a week little Oshkosh Airport in the busiest airport in the world.

I went several years ago and they did a WWII bombing run with a handful of B17's and B24's flanked by at least 50 P51s, P38s... It took over an hour for them all to take off and get into formation.

James, that must be a different airshow than EAA Airventure, which runs July 25 - 31 this year... I was unaware of that one.

Cool, keep us posted. I might be able to make it up for that one, OSH is only an hour away :-)

Better known as Whitman Field. Named for Steve Whitman, a native of Wisconsin who flew racing airplanes in the 30s and later designed race winning aircraft. His Chief Oshkosh hangs in the Air and Space Museum in Washington.

Here's a nice little bio of Steve Whitman.

And here's a shot of a plaque at the A&S exhibit honoring fellow Oshkosh air racer Betty Skelton: Steve Whitman photo

If you're into airplanes, and all related things, this is the neatest thing you could do, attend the EAA fly-in, (now known as AirAdventure) in Oshkosh. I've been twice, and it's a photographer's paradise.

Don't miss it!

ok I got the scoop from my dad today. I will be going up with the board members from the Houston Hobby 1940's air terminal museum to visit the museum up at the experimental aircraft museum in Oshkosh. They are going to get some pointers and ideas on how to run a air museum. So I get to tag along and take pictures of a bunch of old people infront of cool airplanes.
