I am new to digital photography and and DP, yet it is my opinion that if you choose an "ordinary object" as your subject, it should at least be in focus, not burnt out, and some composition to be a photo fit for the purpose. To enter a photo contest without these elements is very curious to me. I do know some people commit these 'errors' for effect which can be creative, but many of the shots I look at do not seem to be for the 'effect'. Am I the only one who feels this is important? I notice many of these shots still 'rate' well. |

I think that most shots need something to be in focus. I also think that good exposure can really help a shot, but it is tricky so seeing a lot of hot spots isn't all that unexpected. Everyone has their own way of voting on pictures and their own taste. A picture can still do well here if it has some good aspects to balance out the bad.
It's all subjective, and we don't all completely agree on what makes a good photo. |

Amen to both of those statements.
