Muddy colour is depressing in nature, so I guess you have something in that, but I can,t say I like it myself, maybe because the subject is water.,
Also the bottom third needs cropping, to bring forward the bridge.

I really thought I posted on this earlier, perhaps I forgot to hit post....well anyway I didn't find this depressing. I thought old, weathered, forgotten, then I thought of my vacations to the lake when I was little and it made me smile at those forgotten memories. keep playing with this I think to the right people it evokes the emotion you were looking for.

I've actually been working on the same kind of stuff. Trying to take my pictures and give them more feeling. This is what I came up with today:

it's so hard to convey a universal emotion in a photograph. Everyone has different memories. A bridge to one person who got engaged on a similar bridge will convey a positive emotion (hopefully) while someone who lost a love one to a car accident on a bridge the same photo would convey a very negitve emotion.

The best photographers moved people, but sometimes I wonder if they moved them in the direction they were trying to get them to go. That is why I'm a port major, I think faces convey so much more than bridges

Just realized that pic would have been good for the "Wooden" challenge! Looks like I need to go out and find something else now! :/
