EBAY PRINT FOR SALE |
It's a nice picture however looking at the small size it seems a bit under exposed (due to the mist). Brightening it up and possibly boosting the contrast might make it more appealing.
Also, there's still a couple of days left on the auction. You may get a flurry at the end.

I've done this only once, but I believe that when you drop ship from DPC, your name/address will not appear on the packing slip. My son sold one of my prints for me from his eBay account about a year ago. I didn't want it to appear that the print came from me. When I inquired from DPC at the time what addresses were used (other than the ship-to address), I was informed that no other name/address is referenced on the packaging/packing slip for any drop shipped items.
...Don't know if this makes sense to anyone, but it may be useful if you intend to buy from DPC Prints to sell online from elsewhere (like eBay... or Yahoo Stores).

I've never tried drop shipment. I like to have complete control of when and how the image gets there.
I also like having the opportunity to review a photograph before it goes out to look out for problems and if the customer wishes, to sign and date it.
I have had excellent success with DPC's printing, but there was one print that had an odd white band across the bottom, like it didn't get cut right. None of the others that shipped with it (same image) had that, but I would've been a bit embarrassed had I drop shipped it and not know about that slight defect.
It was all good though since I used it to test out pens to write my signature with. :D

I guess I will jump on the wagon too. I am thinking of using mpixfor the prints instead of DPCP simply so I don't have to worry about forgeting to take it off my prints page. I forget things like that a lot. I also don't think I'll do the drop shipping for the same reasons as Lucid, I'd like to review the photos before I ship them to a customer. I'm a firm believer in Mr. Murphy.

i sold 2 matted and framed photos on ebay. They did go for much and if i recall right i only made $2 on them, but i figured they sold and it was a learning curve. Next time i will start the starting price a bit higher and see what happens. Someone also told me to put them in home decor under prints/posters. Apparently you have more luck that way. Instead of just putting it under photography

Wow, that's an excellent idea. I never would've thought of it and missed it in the earlier thread.
Thank you for opening another avenue, lentil!

Oooh ... mine are all designed that way anyhow--great tip! I will check it out. Probably only work for 11x14 and larger print sizes though. |

Added to home decor section:
Ebay Photo
for anyone wondering here is the categories to go through:
Home & Garden: Home Decor: Wall Décor: Posters, Prints
Also about the drop shipment thing. If you ship to yourself then to someone else aren't you paying shipping twice? I see if I drop ship I can save a few dollars. DPC is a really good print and they have a money back guarantee.

Listing looks pretty good--that seems like a "good price" for that large a print, but probably all you can get there.
If you don't drop-ship, you just have to account for the double-shipping in your shipping charges. |

Since I tend to buy in bulk - at least 5 at once, each print doesn't cost a whole lot to ship. That can easily be added either to the shipping you charge the customer or onto your print price.
Example: If I'm buying 6 11x14s at $3.40 each, and that costs me $3.00 to ship, that's $23.40 total. If I'm selling each print at $22.50 + shipping of $7.00.. well I'm making enough in that first sale to nearly cover the initial purchase, shipping & listing fees - as with everything this requires me to sell that first print.
I do suggest trying different methods, find out what is easiest for you. I like the above method for the ease and control. You may like something else and find it much more convenient.

Whose non-compete clause are we talking about -- Ebay's or DPCPrints? (Shows you I never read such agreements ;) |

I was referring to eBay's agreement. DPC Prints is essentially your storefront; you can have whatever policy you want.
What they didn't want was, for example, a listing for "Photo A" on eBay for $15, with a link-back to DPCP where the same print is available for $12. But it's OK if you have "Picture B" for sale at DPCP. |

i think you're killing it with the 'do not copy' cross. you need something more subtle that doesn't distract from your image. IMO, of course. |

You know, I don't buy alot of prints for home decor, but it seems to me that the prices you all are asking should be a bit higher. I find that people will justify just about any price to themselves if they want an item, this includes paying crazy shipping cost, I have done that myself. And shipping cost are usually jacked up for that extra bit of profit, not for what it really costs. I guess what I mean is if you don't put a higher value on your prints, why should they? For example, my son came home from school several years ago and asked me if I knew what Nike's were, I said yes. He then tells me, that he needs them. The day before he didn't know what they were, suddenly he "needs" them because somebody told him they were of great value. Another point is that the way Ebay works on human nature by letting people bid for the item. If it wasn't a good gimmick to get people to buy and pay more, it wouldn't be a part of how the Ebay system works. People LOVE it if they think they got a bargain and the funny thing is often they will actually pay more in the long run, just to have bragging rights. So if you set a price on the "Buy Now" button that is considerable higher than "you" expect, they will actually expect that is the basic value, so they will be thrilled to get it at "any" price lower than the "buy now" price. Then they can brag that they got it at a steal. If you aren't one of these types of people, you probably won't have a clue what I mean, but I grew up in a family that LOVED to think they got a bargain. My aunts and mother would spend all day shopping at stores , running tons of gas out, chasing bargains, buying things they didn't need , but BOY, did thay get their moneys worth ( according to their way of thinking). These are just my theories, don't even know if I'll follow my own advice, when I get around to actually trying it. Good luck everybody. The store front idea sounds interesting, does Ebay charge a big fee for that? |

I'm trying to remember about the storefront.. I think a basic one was $15.95/mo.

I'm sorry to hear you aren't having muchluck this time around.
I'd really suggest a higher starting value, someone may think that it isn't of great quality because you've initially valued it so low.
Something to think about at least if you decide to give it another try.

If you aren't having luck on ebay you may want to try your county fair. I sold 5 photos through my county fair this summer. |
