Has anyone out there entered one of the earlier Photographer's Forum contests? I entered it and I found I today that several of my other photography friends did too. We have all received a letter telling us we are "Finalists" with an order form to order a book that will print all the finalists.
The book order form raises the question: "Is this a legitimate contest or a money making plan to make money selling copies to the photographers?"

Most likely the latter, though I haven't heard of this specific organization. There are a lot of ventures like this - poetry, art, photography, high school honors, etc, etc.

| If they want you to buy something it is a scam.....they should be paying you to publish your photo. |

I have entered and have had a photo as a "finalist", actually making Honorable Mention. I, for one, did not order the book as I saw it not a good way to spend my money. I am going to appear in the next Photographer's Forum magazine and I do also have a free copy sitting on my desk. All in all, i'm not 100% sure about it, but I think it's legit --- still I am wary to spend $50.00 on any book that someone asks me to buy with my own photo in it.

This one was supposed to be sponsored also by Canon. . . . .
I think the winners are published in the magazine and the finalists in a book. If legitimate, it would be my first "published" work. If not . . . . .
I guess patience is a virtue, I'll just have to wait and see. |
