I have been asked to be the photographer for an event in 2006 but I have no idea what to charge or what kind of lighting options I need to purchase before the event. I shot some photographs at this year's event for my work which were at best informal. The event coordinators like my photos better than the paid photographer's and they asked me to submit a quote so they could work it into their budget for next year. The event is for a non-profit organization so I can't charge them an astronomical amout. Any suggestions on a fee?
Also, this year's event location was very dark. It took a bit of work to get the shots I took to come out. Any suggestions on lighting or flashes?
Thanks for your help!

If you don't mind me asking, what type of event is it? |

Get an idea of their budget and see if it would work out best for both if you charged an hourly rate.

It is the Girl Scout's Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon. I do the graphic design for them and now the photography. |

Just because they're "non-profit" doesn't mean they have no money. I'm not saying that you should charge them an astronomical amount by any means, but I've been surprised in the past to find that some of the non-profits I've dealt with are among the most willing to spend a fair amount of money for quality work.
Again, I'm certainly not suggesting a gouging here, don't get me wrong; I'm just saying that you should be fair to yourself when pricing this, and don't necessarily feel bad because they're a non-profit. |
