i have a photoshoot in the next hour and its a family of 5, and i aleady have an idea of what im gong to do as far as poses and lighting but i want something more creative than the traditional family portrait
if you could post pictures of some family portraits in a creative pose or lighting that would be helpful

What about those pictures someone was asking about recently...the wheare each person is holding a picture frame with a picture of another family member in it? I want to try that myself.

The easiest, and sweetest, thing to do is after you've shot some formals, get them to do a big group hug. Line them up, 2 facing one way, 3 facing the other (both groups facing each other) and then tell them to squeeze in for a big hug! It works every time and they always love the shot.

here's an "okay" sample...illustrates my point HUG

I suppose this is a bit different. Kinda reminded me of The Family Feud.

unless I'm wrong you just need one picture frame. From what it looks like you take each family member individually holding the frame except for the youngest who you just do a regular portrait of. You then place each pic within the frame in PS.
If anyone knows the actual way it was done...please step in!

Fetor, Did you add the family in the frame with photoshop or did you have the family stand back putting them in the frame while the girl stood forward? Then cloning out there bottom halves? It's a very cute take on the frame thing either way.

Yeah, I don't think it really matters how it was accomplished, just that the client is happy because I'm sure they could care less how it was done. I like what you did. Like I said, it's quite a cute idea. :-)

I was just curious.

Here is the one I did recently. It is actually 4 different photos, done using photoshop. Pretty easy, just scaling down to abuot the right sze and then using the perspective tool to get the corners right. And yes I know her fingers are cut off. Next time I will remember to have them hold it a certain way.
