töff means cool as in 'cool shot' or in Icelandic; 'töff skot'.

Just an observation..
In Swedish the word is "Tuff".. very similar.. Although in recent years "Cool" seem to be replacing "Tuff"..
I think the brits split this into two words, "Toff" and "Tough", then invented a new one which is "cool",
Just speculating here :p |

Haha, nice.
In Dutch we use Tof!
Wow, echt tof.
(Wow, realy cool)
I think the Belgians use Tof more then the Dutch, we converted to the more international word "Cool" however now "Cool" isn't cool anymore
They now use Vet (As in FAT) or Vet-Cool (So a Dutch-English word)
Crazy kids ;) |

Toff in the UK is slang for a member of the upper classes or aristocracy. |

How interesting :) .. Never thought I could Learn any Dutch words.. Such a strange language :p. Won't forget this one tho.
Yes, the nordic variation is closer related to tough, but my theory was that tough was certainly not a word worthy of the brittish aristocracy, but they wanted to see themselves as "cool" thats why they made it "Toff" instead.
In opposite, in swedish we have another slang word "Toffel" which means a "Softie" .. or Nerd. But that one comes from the official word "Toffel" which is "Slipper". :p |
