I recently got the 70-200L f4 and I am a little concerned about the feel and some sounds. It's probably normal but just wanted to hear from other users of this lens because I have not seen these mentioned in relation to this lens.

1) The zoom ring feels a little rough to rotate - rougher than the focus ring which is smooth. Like the gears are not exactly in the teeth.

2) There is a soft clank - stacking noise of the glass I guess is what I am hearing when focusing on something close and then far away. It's hard to explain but it's not that the focus is loud, just sounds like the elements are moving around a little. This seems to happen even when the 2 points are only 1/2 a metre apart.

3) There is also a distinct double adjustment when locking onto focus when the current focus point is a longer distance from where it needs to be (seems much better when the focus is close to where it needs to be).

I am probably been paranoid but they are not exactly what I was expecting.

I have that lens, and other than the shutter clicking (which is pretty quiet) I don't ever hear anything. I think it might be wise to be worried.

I've got that lens too and I have never heard/experienced what you're talking about. Whisper quite and blazing fast.

Time to take it to the shop where you bought it or call Canon about replacing it with another.
