Speaking of Apple bashing, I was surprised yesterday to find out iTunes wouldn't let me re-download the tracks I'd already bought saying I should copy them from my previous computer. What if the hard disk crashed, or the PC was stolen, etc?!
Why do I get the feeling Apple would be MORE than happy to sell me all my tracks again?
I'll be sticking to CDs if at all possible in the future.

Why should apple be responsible for keeping up with customers music? They plainly state you should backup your libary regularly (just like any other data). I know I bought some photoshop actions from fredmiranda and they plainly state that if you lose them they will not replace them. Apple is close to 500,000,000 downloads. Can you imagine trying to keep all those purchases up to date everytime someone gets a new computer?
Apple has replaced 3 songs for various reasons and credited me 2 songs.
Belive me they aren't as big brother as other seattle based computer companies. |

So when Apple sell me a track are they selling me a one off binary transfer, or a licence? I believe they're selling me a licence, and if they are, they should honour that licence which grants me the right to listen to the track I purchased.
Apple's logistics are not the concern of its customers.
A lot of companies replace lost/damaged media as long as you can prove you licensed their software.
Anyway, regardless of their policy, whether it is or isn't right, I will certainly not be patronising their service unless I have no other choice in the future.

Didn't catch the name of the song, but the credits listed the Vines as the group. |

I have several CDs that have been scratched beyond playing over the last 20 or so years (not counting my vinyl). Do record companies replace scratched CDs? No way. When Cassettes were replaced by CDs as the medium of choice did record companies offer you a cheap upgrade? Of course not, so then why should Apple replace songs that we lost at no fault of the company? |

I'm having the exact same problem (my hard disk DID crash)! They say I can have my songs back with the same credit card I used to purchase them or the same login, but I no longer have the same credit card and my login was an AOL account I no longer have so they won't give me back my songs!
edit to add: I can prove in a number of different ways that I am the same person... e.g. I can tell them what my AOL screenname and password were, but since I no longer pay AOL every month that's not good enough. Also, I have new credit cards with my same name, SSN, etc. They can validate my identity with those.

| Yeesh, however that was posted, it was unfriendly to Macs. I had to launch WMP and feed it the url manually. The credits indicated Scott Kelby was behind it. Recognize him? If it's not a joke, Kelby is having a good natured poke at Apple. |
