I told the client time and time again, you cannot get a good natural light shot under full sunlight at 2pm. So why is it she never makes herself available except at 2pm under cludless skies?
And why do I persist in being dumb enough to let friend talk me into helping them like this?

She's actually a very active and respected member of the community who believes herself to be an expert in more things than she knows about. For instance, if you want me to take some body shots of you for this contest and you don't want to do the basement ministudio sitting at your home again, then you have to commit to make time when I think it is useful to us and not when you can combine it with something you are already doing, say a thank you reception where 50 of your sponsors are meeting you under a midday sun in an outdoor area where there is no good backdrop within the 25 foot radius you have decided to stay in.
*Whew* Thnaks for that opportunity to vent.

Because...her status is more important to her than your reputation.
YES + YES + BUT = NO (or how to turn the tables)
Q. Could you take some photos of my very important event during broad daylight under cloudless skies?
A.1.(yes) I'd love to take photos of your grand magnificence!
A.2. (yes) And I know since you understand photography so well that a professional would probably be able to work in those extreme conditions...
BUT. Since I'm just a hobbiest I don't think I could pay proper tribute to your grand magnificence with my limited equipment.
So....I hope you'll be able to find someone who can do it for you!
However, if we could set up the photo at at different time or indoors, I'd really like to be the one to shoot your grand magnificence. (No pun intended in the last bit.)
EDIT: I see you have gone pro...so you'll have to come up with some other flattering excuse. But the principle stands.
Alternative:
A.1. What a wonderful opportunity!
A.2. I'd love to be able to do that for you!
BUT, 2 p.m. (outdoors in broad daylight) just won't work for me.
(Then wish the person luck. Or offer to suggest some other names. Or offer a different time and/or place for accomplishing what they want.)
