Just wanted to share this software with you people...
For those that don't know what it is, it's a software that you can see the world from the sky with satelite images but not in real time.
Has anyone played with this software?
I am having lot's of fun with it.
hope you enjoy.
Google Earth

Google Earth rocks! This app and its API, as well as Google Maps and its newly available API make creating custom mapping applications a breeze. I have been playing with both of them over the past week.

One cool application that is of particular interest to us as photographers is an integration between Flickr and Google Earth. The folks over at Geobloggers have put together a Network link for Google Earth that, as you browse locations on the planet, will pull the newest and nearest photos from Flickr. This is possibl;e because a bun ch of people at Flickr have been geocoding their images with latitude and longitude information.

Pretty cool stuff. In general, this idea of data being pulled in real time and associate with a physical location is wonderful and interesting. Just like the Marauder's Map in Harry Potter! :)

My dad and I sat here for hours trying to locate our old houses. It was fun arguing about which house was ours and the way things have changed since we lived there.

Take care with that flying + tilt option. You do more than about 10 minutes of that and you'll wish you had taken Dramamine first!

The Google earth software is only available for the PC currently and I use a Mac.

Can someone tell me if it is similar to THIS

When the browser window first appears click on the satellite icon at the top right and then in the search field at the top, type in your zip code or address. Use the zoom scale at the left.

This is the location to my favorite employement....

34d 13'36.82" N, 117d 07'25.54" W Elevation 6,011ft

There's not a lot to see since it's an outdoor education camp for 6th graders in the mountains of Southern California. However, I loved the job.

It's close, but they've changed some of the stuff and the resolution is a little better. The only thing that sucks is they've blocked out some of the "high security" buildings. Check out Washington DC. It's all blocks.

Yeh how come the white house is all painted out? You can still see the shape and anything so it's not like its gonna hinder terrorist activity anymore than if they just showed the roof?

It is to prevent anyone from seeing building rooftop security. Look closely and you'll see a lot more than just the top of the White House is blocked out. Two buildings on either side are as well. The left side building is Blair House, the Vice President's residence. I don't know what the one on the right is. The US Capitol building, Supreme Court, Washington Union train station and congressional office buildings are also blocked out. Ironically, the Pentagon and FBI headquarters are not. :)

Personally, I think they should save The Smithsonian. That place is really cool!

I don't know about that. All the places I've tried had pretty crappy resolution. Maybe the big cities are better. I do like the fact that I can see places from the old country, though I wish resolution was a whole lot better.

Take a look out in west Texas for example. I used to live in Lubbock, you can't make out license plates but you can still fill the monitor with a vehicle! Hey, try my old house at 2006 78th Street, Lubbock TX... that's me waving out the front window :o)

I was just using the google maps and looked at Paris, France and maybe it's just me but it seems like the images need to be rotated 180 degrees. Is it just an illusion? They look fine when seeing the US stuff...maybe the satelite was upside down then. Weird.
