Lyrics for Song: Bumper of My S.U.V.
Lyrics for Album: Everything
I've got a bright red sticker on the back of my car,
Says: "United States Marines."
An' yesterday a lady in a mini-van,
Held up her middle finger at me.
Does she think she knows what I stand for,
Or the things that I believe?
Just by looking at a sticker for the US Marines,
On the bumper of my S.U.V.

See, my brother Chris, he's been in,
For more than 14 years now.
Our Dad was in the Navy during Vietnam,
Did his duty, then he got out.
And my Grandpa earned his Purple Heart,
On the beach of Normandy.
That's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines,
On the bumper of my S.U.V.

But that doesn't mean that I want war:
I'm not Republican or Democrat.
But I've gone all around this crazy world,
Just to try to better understand.
An' yes, I do have questions:
I get to ask them because I'm free.
That's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines,
On the bumper of my S.U.V.

'Cause I've been to Hiroshima,
An' I've been to the DMZ.
I've walked on the sand in Baghdad,
Still don't have all of the answers I need.
But I guess I wanna know where she's been,
Before she judges and gestures to me,
'Cause she don't like my sticker for the US Marines,
On the bumper of my S.U.V.

So I hope that lady in her mini-van,
Turns on her radio and hears this from me.
As she picks up her kids,
From their private school,
An' drives home safely on our city streets.
Or to the building where her church group meets:
Yeah, that's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines,
On the bumper of my S.U.V.

Ah, but then the lady might have been gesturing because she doesn't like SUVs, or the SUV driver cut in or something. She may not even have seen the bumper sticker.

My wife & I have a tendency of giving certain gestures to drivers of cetain SUVs, especially the Hummer. Besides the gluttony of their gas milage and the fact that their heavy weights (along with others such as the escalade, expedition, sub...)are causing our tax payers more due to fixing roads that are wearing out 15% sooner than theirexpected due to the heavier vehicles, the brilliant minds in Washington give THEM a tax break. Not to menditon responsible people such as myself are at increased risk everytime we get on the road with these 3 ton monsters.

Rex has a point - roads are designed based on the worst possible conditions namely large trucks that are heavy, slow, and difficult in curves and turns. Some highways (major ones anyway) are over half a meter thick - 'heavy' suv's (4 tons compared to an 18 wheeler that carries 30 tons, not including it's own weight) aren't going to hurt that. If anything wears out roadways quicker, it is usage, ie no carpooling. If you want to flick someone off, flick off the umpteen people that drive to work alone.

Also asphalt roadways are really hurt by gridlock, since asphalt is a fluid mixture of an oil-based compound and agregate. If you notice in cities, they often have concrete pads at bus stops, because if they didn't the buses would sink into (slightly) and rut up the roadway. Also, salt and ice hurt roads.

Don't blame SUV's for everything. They are kinda dumb, but so is short-sightedness.

Of course there are 18 wheelers and dump trucks that weigh more the Hummers, but did you think it through? It is not just the weight of the vehicle but the frequency. I doubt any dump truck or 18 wheeler sells almost 2000 units a month as the H2 does (3300 a month peek). Does a mother need such a vehicle to go get groceries?

Also primary roads are not bulit to handle heavier vehicles on a regular basis. Except of delivery vehicles consumer SUVs put many more miles on the road system than say a dump truck.

Interesting Stat.. The U.S has 5% of the world population but uses 44% of the petrolium.
