The reason for the "exclusivity" of the groups is to keep the interaction at a manageable level so they can be structured. They are not "exclusive" in the sense that certain individuals had any inside track to mentorship or participation. It just kind of exploded really fast. If this catches on and becomes institutionalized, everyone will get their chance to participate, and all may participate by observing and following along anyway.
IN order to keep the groups structured and focused, it's pretty important that non-group-members use PM, not the forum, with questions. Otherwise it can degenerate fast into a free-for-all melee of images LOL.

You can't? I've never tried the "ignore" option on the threads, but all the other options seem to work.
Have you tried simply selecting "Ignore" on the threads? I imagine it would take roughly:
6 seconds per thread * 10 threads = 60 seconds
Right around the same amount time it would take to compose a new thread complaining about them.

I think it is a very good idea and don't see a problem with it. I think it's a long over due learning system than many (participants and viewers along with mentors) will learn from. It's just the first day and I think that is why so many threads pooped up at once. I'm not involved right now because of personal reasons but I appreciate the opportunity to view and read. I may actually learn something.

1. They will thin out on the front page.
2. They may not last that long (at least some of them).
3. If (2) is wrong, the site admins will probably code a separate section for it, which can be hidden as a whole if desired.
I'd like to reward people who take some initiative to try and create something in line with the general purposes of the site, even if it causes some slight inconvenience until the logistics are worked out.
On the other hand, a bit more advance planning in the future might be good. It's true I recommended* using the GTG-type threads, but didn't plan on ten threads all starting at once. And, that wasn't really necessary--some of the groups could have just held on a couple of days to see how the first groups worked--it's rare to test-fly 10 prototypes at once ...
*note that SC members are volunteer advisors, and not "site admin."

More annoying is people, despite being asked not to, posting to the threads asking to join. Do as is asked, ask via PM (that's what I did) - let these things kick off as the guidelines suggest, even if you miss out, there'll be more undoubtably because of the popularity of it. |

I wasn't complaining by starting this thread...if I need to disclaim that fact one more time, then I'll start complaining!
All the best, it's a great idea that didn't enjoy the best implementation. It's not a big deal...great things will come of it! Enjoy! [/url] |

I can see many groups being a bit of annoyance on the front page, but it was done that way per Site Admin instruction. What I'd really like to have is a private forum in DPC. Why move to Yahoo groups when DPC has precisely the tools and appropriate membership necessary to make mentorship a reality?
Once again, I sincerly apologize to those who are annoyed that something new is taking place.
P.S. For those who are interested in being involved, you still can. Go to my profile for a list of the groups and mentors. Then PM the mentor of the group you are interested in. Also, ANYONE can read the threads and learn from them - they are in no way intended to be exclusionary. |
Personally, I'm very happy to "watch" all of the threads. I don't have time to actively participate in any of them (I haven't even entered a challange in months). I want to thank you for starting these. |

They are not exclusive..they are for all dpcers and others...anyoen can follow along, anyone can LEARN from the group. Contact the leader of the group you woudl like to be in and ask if there is still room... I was quick i got in a great group - AFTER it was formed....
