how much of this goes on? i find it hard to believe that some challenges launch and within hours recieve submissions.
either these submissions are the ones that score 1's to 2's - OR - people pull forward previously taken shots, which are suitable, and then modify the dates?
It would be interesting to see on each shot - when the shot was taken (between the submission times) and also when it was submitted to the challenge. |

Remember the shot may be replaced anywhere within the submission period, so it may be people uploading placeholders. Also don't forget people DO get excited about entering challenges - what's to say they didn't take a studio shot in the first hour or so, or happened to have something perfect for the challenge?

Sorry, but I think that all this would do is create a lot of speculation and possibly further accusations.

I think most of us are really into taking pictures. And when the challenge comes along, some are more inspired than others.
I created my entry for Circles within a few hours. Now granted, it isn't the best picture I've ever taken. It's just that you never know when ispiration strikes. |

I think with this you just have to hope the majority of people are honest.
Editing the EXIF data in your raw files is very easy to do. There are software programs which allow this, you dont have to be a "hacker" of some sort.
I actually love the anticipation of the hunt each week so I would never edit my EXIF data. It kind of ruins what I refresh this site daily hundreds of times ;) |

Also be aware that we have caught several people who've tried hacking EXIF. It results in very long vacations from DPC. And an increase in scrutiny on ALL subsiquent submissions.
Many people upload placeholder images early on. Remember that since this is an international site it is possible to go out and shoot/submit before the US is up. And I'm sure some folks like having the first image submitted.

Out of curiosity, what purpose may a 'placeholder' image serve?

None? But I know people stick them in anyway. We're all a bit strange around these parts. ;) |

Perhaps placeholders are used by trolls to get a reaction from the people who get upset about challenges with a large number of entries. ;)

I was the first person to submit for the Independence entry. I didn't submit a pic for family or sports, because I couldn't find a way to get a good pic. When I saw the Independence challenge I was happy to see a challenge I could get behind. I walked around my house pondering, and found something there that I think will work as a still life. I shot it and submitted within three or four hours of the challenge post. |

it's also possible, considering the challenge topics are user chosen, that when the new one is posted - the person or people involved in mentioning the given theme already had an idea prior to the start of the challenge. once posted they go ahead and shoot their idea. this seems a very likely possiblity.

I was in a position to take a picture that I could have submitted for the circles challenge that involved a sculpture/fountain of multiple mirrored metal orbs within three hours of learning the challenge. I had neither my camera nor the opportunity as I had to get to work and didn't have time since then to go back.
I actually was wonering if there was a way to post pictures just to have them rated even though they weren't taken within the dates?
I took what I consider to be a good picture of a friend playing beach football a couple of weeks ago and THEN they put up the Sports challenge as Open... DOH!
Is it possible to post a picture in the category without offering it for voting (or increasing the pic total for the votes) just for the chance of having some random people commenting?
I guess the alternative is to just put the pic in my area....
I wonder how many people would post pics and voluntarily have them exempt from the actual voting just for the chance to have some people comment on them? I wonder if this would increase the number of submissions by people genuinely needing improvement and decrease the number of pictures requiring votes?
I am one of the people who doesn't really have enough time to vote for most challenges because there are simply too many pics. |

There's an "outtakes" thread for many of the challenges, and this would be a good place to post such a pic. Out of courtesy for those who did submit, please do wait until the voting has started to post outtakes, however.

This is the second thread in a few days questioning the validity of photos/integrity of the photographers. I would think it better to challenge a photo during the voting period if you suspect it was not taken during the time frame as opposed to making blanket inquiries/accusations to the integrity/honesty of the people who submit photos. |

didnt see previous thread, just debating the point about when shots were taken, and how quickly within the challenge. |

Doesn't seem like a debate. Seems more like an accusation and you want confirmation. |
