I don't know how I came up with the effects. I don't remember the steps. The sky was not replace. The only sharpening done was USM 18-40-0 / 150-0.3-0 darkened 100% / 150-0.3-0 darkened 50%. When I took this picture I though I was going to be taking a picture that I could do a colored dream effect on. Instead I as I processed I began to see depression in it and went with the mood it portrayed to me.
Edit I re-worked the sky to give it some texture instead of a flat gray. Was wanting to know if it helps.

It's an interesting picture. definitely moody. Looks like you inverted it at some point; it's a "negative" now...
Robt.
Naw. I inverted it back in PS and it's even MORE of a negative then. Somehow you've acquired a mock-infrared effect. Pity you don't remember how.

Don't you just HATE it when you haven't a clue how you got something to work?

I really like what you did, and I love that you are not afraid to try knew things. I have one suggestion and I would have done this myself but I am without any photoshop on my new computer for now. anyway, i think what would make this pop is if you did excatly what you did to everything in the picture but the road. I think this would just make the picture pop. |

I had a similar problem lately and talked about it here. What I'm wondering is just what all of the blending options really do. Sure, you can scroll through them and see what happens, but what do they do? I'd like to be able to predict where a photo is going, if possible. |

Thanks everyone for your comments.
I wish I could of done something with the sky. In the original the sky is washed by washed in a gray not white. We had just receive a feeder band from the hurricane and had just stopped raining less than 5 minutes before that. So the sky was a mid-dark gray tone and smooth. I guess thats why it looks so funny. Like I said I didn't play with the sky, I should have to give it some texture.

Here's a couple places to check re: what blending modes do:

//www.arraich.com/ref/tool_blend_modes.htm
This one is extremely lucid if you like technical explanations.
