Slowly rolls up sleves, grabs up a smoke and cold beer. Then ponders on how to write it. This site is about learning and having fun doing it. Lets learn something about everyone. So fun enough to me. But we will not talk about who you are. Lets talk monitors, seems like a lot of comments I get is about....looks different on my monitor?? I have never said that I can tell black from white...who can't. I rate pictures most of the time pretty high. It's like the benfit of the dbout factor. Well enough babbling give me and ear I will feel it full! Spurs likes to talk, but not on the net...to much typing!

On to the test, I took 3 images at different exposers. Nothing done to them except resizing and saving the at 100%. Which would you use and why? (Hand Held) :-รƒž

Edit for spelling and grammer

My favorite saying is "Let's walk and learn to run later"
There will be no prizes awarded to any winners...Only what you learn.
Did that sound corny or what lmao.

Peace -Spurs-

Image 3 out รข€“ not enough detail
Image 1 out รข€“ highlights not what I would want

Image 2 my choice รข€“ I think I could work with the shadows and highlights

...but then I dont know much

What is the object of this test? To see if we need to calibrate our monitors (I do) or if you need to calibrate yours?

Anyways...the way I c it.

The first shot the yellow flower is too hot...blowing the bokeh into oblivion...Tip of the green thing is a little hot as well...off to the recycle bin.

Last shot dark and dirty looking, Levels and Curves might help but sounds like too much work for me...off to the recycle bin.

Center shot has a happy medium where I could adjust the mids to bring a little life to the green thing and not blow of the yellow mess behind. So I guess if someone made me choose one of the three to work with it would be the middle one.

BTW: Just curious but what is benifit of the doubt voting?

Of being to much or not enough exposer.

I would say a blend of 2 and 3.

3 seems to have the greens on the top of the in focus object correct though everything else is a bit dark.

2 seems to have most of the tones right except for the greens on the top of the in focus object.

In the first shot, the red and green channels are blown throughout the yellow area, leaving almost no detail there. The second shot is well-exposed overall, with only small areas blowing out, mainly in the red channel. Problem is, the blue channel has lots of noise, since the white balance was pretty warm. A cooler white balance and exposure near the second shot would have yielded the best result in JPEG. In RAW, I'd give it a little more to use some of the headroom and pull it back in post.

They're all rather rough. The only one with decent enough subject detail is the first one, and the background is real close to blown (for my taste -- it's distracting). The other two, not enough subject detail ... it's all in shadow.

You're shooting the shaded side of a dark object with a background full of super-reflective light colors with sunlight shining directly on it. Maybe go to the other side, and put a black towel behind it for the proper exposure.
