Are photos from pro sporting events legal (literally)?

the illegal part would be to sell them.

I'm pretty sure it's legal as long as you're not nude while you're shooting them :-P

Unless you are shooting at the inter-nudist colonies volleyball league, in which case I believe all you are allowed to wear is a camera strap and spare memory cards !!!!!
