dinner count = 2
Karen and I will be there for dinner. I have a (lunchroom type)table and folding chairs seats 4-6. I have also just confirmed via phone that Karen knows not to send you to Anacostia on the Green Line at 1 AM and therefore we will volunteer to lead a group. Karen is a local, I on the other hand am a big goober tourist =).
Clara, I think you have our number. call us if you want any further info. or just to discuss logistics.
Vince

Does JPR know this? Last I checked, you were his ride.
Also, if you are coming down Saturday afternoon you will want to drive directly to DC and not to my apartment, as I will already be in DC by that time.
You do still have a place to sleep at my apartment, you'll just need to follow me back.
-Terry |
I want to try and avoid driving to DC. I would rather meet you before and go together..what time are you leaving for DC Saturday?
I will e-mail JPR and find out what his plans are.

Don't know yet, but probably early. Logical thing to do would be drive here straight from AC... but that's complicated by your need to pick up a passenger... Unless Jason wouldn't mind being let loose on the casinos for an evening?

I can bring a card table and 8 folding chairs if they are still needed.

I'm not at a point where I can say no to that, so please bring them. It is greatly appreciated, especially when it means that everyone has a chair to sit on. Thanks.

I'm not local, but I don't see why I couldn't tuck several folding chairs and maybe even a card table in my mini-van... Let me know if it'd help. |

Clara,
I am so so so sorry to have to tell you this, but I had to cancel my trip to the Notacon. I found out that this class I am taking now (we cook in the restaurant) is considered a real "job" as we serve the public. Any days missed are docked a full letter grade. I can not afford to miss two days for this trip, my financial aid is dependant upon my grades. I am so sorry to be finding this out now, I feel I am letting everyone down. I am so sorry.

I would like to come and am looking for a ride down right now.
Anyone coming down through NJ and traveling past exit 10-11 on the turnpike??
I cant drive that distance down as I just had back surgery.
Also curious if there are still any available beds? I cant sleep on the floor though and would need to be close to things...if not I could probably find a hotel.
The good news is if anyone drives me anywhere I have a handicapped parking permit and could get you really close to things ;-)

I just saw this tread. I visit DC once in a while (for business mostly). Can someone tell me what date this is for and some more details? It seem like lots of people are going to attend so I may want to join.
Thanks

hmm.. sounds interesting... Is it a whole weekend event? Is there a schedule of what is happening on what day? I would love to join but I don't think I can do whole weekend. I tried reading other tread but it is a bit too long.

i'm planning on making dinner sat, then the night shoot. i'll be able to hang around until daybreak, then have to head back to richmond. wish i could stay longer, will just have to make the most of it (12 hours...hmmm, that should be good for what 2k clicks, even without being in front of a tv, eh, shannon?) |

Slightly abbreviated itinerary from other thread. For complete info. check around page 10 or so of the other thread. :-)
Friday: Arrival Day. No specific shooting plans for the day. Dinner at Steve's at 6pm. I strongly urge everyone get there earlier. Driving 270 at rush is just not fun. Dinner concludes at 9. This is because the Terry contingent has a 2 hour drive back to PA, and we have a ton planned for Saturday.
Saturday: We have three planned AM events starting at 9am.
1) National Zoo
2) National Mall area (Smithsonian, Monuments durning Day)
3) Downtown DC (A walkaround the DC metro area exploring various nooks and crannies. Includes the Navy Memorial, White House, Ford's Theater)
Meet back up at 6:00 PM at Metro Center station. Walk down to the Mall area for twilight/later afternoon shooting.
Dinner at Union Station at 9:00 PM at Uno.
Night shoot starting at 11:00pm. We will break back into our three groups- this allows us to rotate through all memorials without having 40 of us with tripods around to annoy Park Police.
1) Jefferson Memorial
2) World War 2 Memorial
3) FDR Memorial
These are the ones we are hitting first. All three turn lights off around 1am. After 1am, we will rotate down to Vietnam, Lincoln, and Korea.
Sunday- Arlington National at 1pm. Cause we are all going to be tired!
We should finish up at Arlington around 3ish.

DC is strange about handicap permits, I seem to remember from a friend that they only recognize ones issued by DC.. So you might want to check first before getting a ticket.

According to //dmv.dc.gov/serv/plates/handicap.shtm :
"Disability parking placards/permits or tags from DC or any state allow you to:
Park in any parking space designated for a disabled person."

thanks for the info...
that does tell me that only DC residents can let a meter expire without penalty or stay longer in a spot.
good to know

Well, I haven't gotten a definite answer from the friends we're supposed to get together with about Friday night. So in order to give you guys a good head count, I'm gonna say we most likely will NOT make it to the dinner Friday night. It would be hard for us to get there anyways. :-) But I'll be looking forward to meeting everyone on Saturday!! :-D
